"Wild ride 2006"

Fifth International extreme ski & snowboard competition
16-19 February 2006, Bansko, Bulgaria

The “Wild Ride 2006” is traditionally taking place in Bansko resort. The event gives
the riders a uniquie oportunity to access the amazing Pirin mountain Freeride area. Bansko is
the best and newest resort in Eastern Europe with top quiality lift-facilities and slopes.

The Competition takes place on Todorka peak's north face (2 748 m) following the IFSA Rules.
(International Free Skiers Association).


The event rises great interest among riders and spectators, as well as among international and local media. "Powder" and "Skiing" magazines have already published big articles about Bulgaria, Bansko and the freeriding scene. "Poachers", an european freeride mag, issued a cover from Bansko.
The belgian snowboard mag "Freeze" and the german "Peak" magazines were official guest media to "Wild Ride 2005" - Bansko.


60 skiers and snowboarders will take part in "Wild ride 2006" - Bansko.
Total prize is 3500 euro (cash and prizes).

RULES:

Regulations for conducting an International Extreme
Ski and Snowboard Competition
“Wild Ride 2006” – Bansko

Participation conditions:
1. In the competition can participate only active adults, who:
a. have signed a declaration of awareness and consent;
b. have taken out an accident insurance and insurance for medical expenses for the period of the competition;
c. have the required according to the present regulations means for personal safety;
2. Minor persons may be allowed to the competition only after their parents /guardians/ express in explicit, notary certified declaration of their consent thereof.

Registration:
3. The registration shall be made not later than 05 February 2006 at the competition web-site:   www.wildride2006.e-card.bg , or at phone number +359 888 308 630
4. The Organizer shall reserve for himself the right to deny participation to persons, who have not registered in the specified term, or in the indicated way.

Participation fee:
5. Main package: value BGN 95 /includes participation fee, tree-day card for the installations, “life’ insurance, and ‘medical expenses’ insurance for the competition days/;
6. Extended package: value BGN 210. /includes participation fee, three-day ski-pass for Bansko resort, “life” insurance, and “medical expenses” insurance for the competition days, 3 days of accommodation  plus 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners/; 
7. Full package: value BGN 300. /includes transfer from Sofia airport – Bansko - Sofia airport, participation fee, three-day ski-pass for Bansko resort, “life” insurance, and “medical expenses” insurance for the competition days, 3 days of accommodation  plus 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners/; 
8. Fees shall be paid in cash upon competitors’ registration. The preferred package shall be stated by the competitors not later than 05 February 2006.
Compulsory personal equipment
9. The competitors shall have the obligation to be equipped with personal protective equipment and avalanche safety equipment. Such shall include: 
- Protective ski or snowboard helmet; 
- Factory-made spine bone protector or a rucksack with factory-made solid back;
- Avalanche transceiver.
10. In the case that a competitor is not equipped with an avalanche transceiver, such competitor shall be allowed to participate only after signing an explicit declaration about his/her awareness of the multiple higher risk he’she exposes himself/ herself to.
11. The compulsory equipment for minor persons shall be: protective ski or snowboard helmet, factory-made spine bone protector, and avalanche transceiver. No exceptions or replacements shall be allowed in such cases.
12. The competitors shall have the obligation to have their avalanched transceiver switched on, as well as to have their helmet and spine bone protector well fastened at the moment of starting the climbing up to the starting point till crossing of the final line.
13. No competitor shall be allowed to the starting line in the case of non-completed, in bad condition, or not well fastened equipment.
14. The equipment can be checked at any time of the competition by the starters, Competition Manager, or Safety Manager.
15. The Competition Manager and the Safety Manager can eliminate competitor whose equipment has not been completed in violation of the remarks made by the authorized personnel.  
16. Competitor, of whom it shall be established to have started or performed the coating down the course in violation of the rules under items 8 – 11 hereto, shall be disqualified.

 

Competitors
17. Competitors shall have the obligation to be acquainted and comply with the provisions of the regulations hereto.
18. Competitors shall have the obligation to comply with the decisions of the referee team, Safety Manager, and the Competition Manager.
19. All competitors shall have the obligation to be present at the technical conference, and at other meetings defined as compulsory by the Organizer.
20. It is desirable that the Competitors regard each other, as well as the organizers, sponsors, the spectators, and media with respect and politeness. 
21. Competitors shall have the obligation to get acquainted with the established by the Organizer main and reserve slopes for conducting the competition, as well as the existing natural hazards and risk on the terrain.  
22. The competitors shall have the obligation to get acquainted with the information presented by the organizer with regard to the snow conditions, the rate of avalanche risk on the main and reserve competition courses, in the areas of getting to the starting point, for familiarization with the terrain, and staying of the spectators and media. The competitors shall have the obligation to consider their behavior with regard to that information from the moment of their arrival at the competition area till finally leaving it.
23. The competitors shall have the obligations not to consume alcohol, drugs, or whatsoever medicines which might influence their normal reaction and their ability to access correctly the surrounding situation, at least twelve hours before the announced beginning of the respective start.
24. Competition Manager and Safety Manager can eliminate any competitor in the case of visible behavior which is non-adequate to the situation, independently of the reasons which caused that condition of the competitor. In such case the participation fee paid by the competitor will not be reimbursed.
25. The competitors are not entitled to contacting the referees.
26. It is desirable that the competitors shall not damage or destroy in no way the sponsors’ or organization equipments and indications.

Rules
27. The competition shall last two days envisage also an extra day in the case of unfavorable weather and snow conditions. 
28. The competition shall consist of two starts – qualification and final. 
29. In the case of canceling the final series the competitors shall not be notified till the termination of the qualifications.
30. Skiers can downhill one at a time only.
31. The safety Manager shall be the only authorized person to allow start before the previous competitors has withdrawn from the course.
32. Allowing air tricks shall be considered for the specific slope at which the downhill is conducted, with regard to safety reasons.
33. The competition course shall be the same for men and women. Any competitor shall choose by himself/ herself the downhill line within the limits of the established course.
34. Men and women start together, but shall be placed separately.
35. The starting sequence in the qualifications shall be established by lot, which shall be drawn at the technical conference. The order, established in such a way shall be announced at the technical conference and once again immediately before the start.
36. The qualification shall be conducted separately for the two disciplines - ski and snowboard, and respectively for men and women. Allowed to the final shall be the first 30% of the participants in the respective discipline, and of the respective sex. Fractional numbers shall be rounded to the bigger integer.  
37. The sequence of the finalists’ starts shall be established on the grounds of their results, and in descending order. The order established on these grounds shall be announced at conveying the qualification results, and once again immediately before the start for the day.
38. The classification of the finalists shall be made in accordance with the result obtained in the final downhill. The competition Big prize shall be won by the participant with best result, respectively for men and women, independently of the discipline he/ she is competing in. 
39. The limitation in the descending time shall be established by the referees. Such shall be established on the grounds of the competitor’s time. Competitor who fails to finish within the limits of that time shall obtain “zero’ mark for all categories. 
40. In case that a competitor failed to finish for whatsoever reason within the established time-limit, but nevertheless he/she made a downhill of high difficulty and obtained good results fro the other categories, the chief referee shall be entitled to allowing the inclusion of competitor in the classification.
41. The no fall zone shall be established by the referees and shall be announced at the technical conference. On the day of the start that zone shall be marked in an adequate way.
42. “Line” score shall be established by the referees before the qualification start, and shall not be subject to discussion at the respective downhill session. In case that the final takes place at the same slope the “line’ score shall not be changed.
43. In case that a competitor makes his/her downhill through more than one of the established difficulty lines, the referees shall discuss and establish ‘line’ score fore the respective downhill. In such case, at a controversy among the referees with regard to the ‘line’ score, the chief referee shall have the prevailing vote.  
44. The final shall be clearly defined. At the final sector there shall be a considerable place for the competitors to stop.
45. The competitors shall terminate their final downhill at the final zone, and their time shall not be stopped till that takes place.
46. The competitor and both skies shall cross the finish. It is not required that the competitor cross the finish with ski-sticks or other insignificant accessories of the equipment.
47. The Competition Manager shall be responsible for all aspects of the competition, excluding safety. The Competition Manager and the Safety Manager the only ones entitled to conducting the competition. The remaining personnel shall await the decisions of the Competition Manager or the Safety Manager.

Course
48. The choice of main and reserve course for the competition shall be made by the organizer and shall be approved by the Safety team. 

Start
49. The staring point shall be clearly marked. For safety reasons, with regard to the current weather and snow conditions the Competition Manager and the Safety Team Manager may establish another starting point on the same course. In such case the starting point shall be marked to the extent of being clearly visible and distinguishable from the place, where the referees are situated.
50. Radio communication between the signaling person and the referees shall be allowed to the extent of determining when the competitor can start his/her downhill.

Boundaries
51. The competition course boundaries shall be established by the referees, and shall be announced and explained to the participants at the technical conference. All competition course boundaries shall be coordinated with the Safety Manager.
52. The boundaries shall be established by natural obstacles on the terrain – steep rocks, precipices, trees, etc.
53. During the technical conference competitors shall be acquainted with the conditions and the particularities of the terrain on behalf of the organizers through presenting photos of all sectors of the event.

Final
54. The finish point shall be free of any artificial and natural obstacles and shall allow enough space for the competitors to terminate their downhill.
55. The finish point may be changed before or during the competition if safety reasons require that. The change of the finish point can be only made jointly by the Competition manager and the Safety Manager.

Media
56. It is desirable that all media representatives willing to have on-spot access be present at the technical conference, and in case of that being impossible - to be informed in due time of the discussed issues and the adopted decisions.
57. During the competition all media representatives shall comply with the same requirements and instructions as the competitors, as well as to observe the orders of the Safety Team and of the Competition Manager. 
58. Any movement or stay of media representatives outside the established places for them and the spectators shall be forbidden for safety reasons.
59. It shall be forbidden for the media representatives to enter or to place their equipment at the competition slope, independently of the distance at which they are situated from the established competition course.  
60. The Organizer shall not be liable for incidents which have occurred with media representatives or with their equipment in the case that such accident occurs outside the places established for the media.

Safety Plan
61. The Organizer shall ensure the presence of members of the Security Team at all necessary places within the course and not crossing the start line, course boundaries, and the finish point.
62. The Organizer shall nominate a Safety Manager for the competition, who shall be responsible for all safety aspects for participants, spectators, and media during the competition.
63. The Organizer and the Safety Manager shall prepare a plan fro reaction in the case of accidents, which shall be previously coordinated with the medical emergency team.
64. The Accident Action Plan shall be explained to the participants in the Safety and Course teams, who shall sign a declaration of awareness.
65. The Competition Manager and the Safety Manager shall prepare a plan for slope observation and avalanche safety.
66. Ten days before the announced start of the competition, Safety and Course teams shall undertake actions for observation and rendering safe the main and reserve competition slopes, and the required documentation shall be kept thereof.  

Referees
67. There shall be not less than three and not more than five referees.
68. The referees shall estimate for all 5 categories.
69. The referees shall estimate the competition at firsthand during the competitive runs.
70. The score shall be constitutes as the aggregate of all referee marks. And that shall not exceed 50 points.
71. The categories shall consist of:
a. Line difficulty: Each competitor shall choose his/her own line or course. The high scores shall be for difficult course choice. The difficulty is steadfastness in control, show demonstration, difficulty of the snow terrain, and of the itinerary conditions.
b. Control: Competitors shall keep control during all the time. Any loss of control shall result in a lower score, and anyhow through mastership one can compensate negative score.
c. Fluidity: Constant direction to the aim which includes keeping time and nimbleness in the transition between the specific sectors shall be of extreme importance for the mark. Downfall or stopping shall influence negatively the score for that category.
d. Form and technique: The competitors shall be estimated fror style and technique in the downhill.
e. Aggressiveness: The dynamics with which the competitor shall attack and descend on the itinerary chosen by him/ her.

Details
72. All categories shall be estimated from 1 /minimum/ to 10 /maximum/. A “0” mark shall be used only in the case of elapsed time.
73. The air is not a referee category. The more the tricks and the jumps the more shall increase the sport form and the technical result.
74. Downfalls, unsuccessful landings, precipice collapses, or drafting offs of any kind shall have negative consequences for the marks in categories 2, 3 and 5.
75. The referees shall follow and estimate each downhill, and can only discuss the line difficulty choice made by the competitor. The referees can also discuss the previous downhill, but after having presented their marks thereof. 
76. The technical delegate shall sum up the marks by categories, announce the aggregate score, and write it down in the competition protocol.
77. The referees shall not be prejudiced. In the case that any of the referees shall be in kin or other close relations with any of the competitors, or shall be his/ her sponsor, coach, etc. in such case said referee shall not estimate the downhill of his/ her close competitor. His/ her mark shall be substituted in the aggregate score by the average mathematical result from the marks of the remaining referees for the respective category.  
78. All decisions adopted by the referees shall be final.

 Release of Liability

“Wild Ride 2006” – Bansko

 1. The Competitor declares that he/she is at least 18 years old and in full capacity.

2. The Competitor warrants and represents that he/she is in good health and there are no specific health problems requiring special attention or specific medical care other than the routine medical practice.

3. The Competitor accepts and understands that the practicing of the ski and snowboard sports in their various forms is hazardous and has many dangers and risks. The Competitor further accepts and understands that the participation in freeride and freestyle competitions is much more hazardous than recreational skiing and snowboarding. The Competitor realizes that serious traumas and injuries are common and ordinary occurrence of this sport.

4. The Competitor declares that he/she has received a personal copy and has familiarized himself/herself with the Regulations for the holding of the competition; he/she is fully aware of their content and accepts all responsibilities and obligations contained in them.

5. The Competitor accepts to be treated as a competitor, with all related consequences, throughout the competition: from his/her arrival till the end of the competition, including during on-spot training, training sessions, familiarization with the terrain, getting to the starting point and staying in the area of the competition as well as during the holding of the qualifications.

6. The Competitor is aware of the risks of possible injuries and traumas, of possible damages caused on his/her property as well as damages incurred on third persons in relation to all hazards that the ski and the snowboard sports entail, including, but not limited to: weather conditions, the condition of snow cover, exposed areas, stones, logs, trees and other plants, collision with natural objects, human property and other skiers (snowboarders) as well as ones caused by personal inability, lack of skills or overestimation of one’s capacities. The Competitor is informed that all these risks are not and cannot be covered by the Organizer, its representatives or employees.

7. By execution of this release the Organizer shall be indemnified of responsibility for any trauma or injury to third persons or any damage to the property of third persons having occurred as a result of the Competitor’s engaging in the Organizer’s event.

8. The Competitor hereby agrees, if sustaining traumas or injuries, to receive urgent medical care by the Organizer’s emergency medical team and, if necessary, to be transported by the vehicles of the medical team (ambulance, helicopter) to a general or specialized hospital, chosen by the medical team, where he/she could receive assistance, adequate to his/her condition. The Competitor is aware and accepts that after transporting him/her to the respective health establishment, the Organizer shall be no longer responsible for his/her further condition. The Competitor hereby accepts that all costs related to the urgent medical care provided to him, his/her transportation to a medical establishment and the costs on his/her treatment shall be covered by him/her or under the insurance contracts for medical costs and accidents signed on his/her behalf.

9. The Competitor undertakes to use any possibility, offered by the Organizer, and any other convenient occasion to study carefully the run and the slope, the approaches to the run and all existing or possible hazards and hindrances related to them.

10. The Competitor understands and agrees that he/she assumes voluntarily and in full conscience all risks related to the descending line he/she has chosen within the run of the competition.

11. The Competitor declares that he/she can and will use during the competition personal protective equipment: a helmet and a back protector as well as avalanche safety devices: beacons, probes and shovels.

 

12. The Competitor confirms his/her awareness and agrees that any and all disputes between himself/herself and the Organizer related to his/her participation in the Organizer’s event as well as all claims related to the Competitor’s personality and stemming from personal traumas or injuries and/or death of the Competitor WILL BE GOVERNED UNDER THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION OF THE BULGARIAN LAWS AND WILL BE CONSIDERED BY THE COMPETENT COURT OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA.

13. The agreement under the preceding section shall be construed solely and only as a valid contractual clause regulating fully the jurisdiction of all disputes between the Competitor and the Organizer.

14. If any of the clauses of this release become void this does not make void the other clauses of the agreement as a whole.

15. Relations between the Competitor and the Organizer are regulated by this release and the Regulations for the holding of the competition, Wild Ride Bansko’2005. In this connection the Competitor shall be responsible for all negative consequences that might be incurred on the Organizer, the Competitor or third persons due to the withholding or stating of false facts and circumstances on the part of the Competitor. The present release has been drafted based on the sample Release of Liability of the International Free Skiers Association.

I FULLY UNDERSTAND THE FORGOING LIABILITY RELEASE AND I AM AWARE AND ACCEPT WITHOUT OBJECTION THE CONSEQUENCES OF ITS SIGNING.
